The basic function of our Receptionist/Technician is to assist, efficiently and accurately, in appointment scheduling, insurance benefits application, servicing all patient optical needs and keeping a well-organized work area to provide a clean and pleasant environment for our patient care. The outline below of duties are not limits but guidelines to the duties expected by this position. This outline may be adjusted at any time by the practice.Duties: * Maintenance of overall standards (i.e. cleanliness, housekeeping, etc.) and enforcing policy that associates exhibit professional presentation (ie, attire, etc.) * Present and implement decisive and creative solutions to issues/opportunities to help patients achieve their optical needs. * Schedule and confirm appointments appropriately * Check Insurance Eligibility and determine appropriate balance due from patient for exam. * Check patients in and out for exams (making sure all documents are accounted for) * Work up patients for the Doctor (including any special testing) * Coordinate referrals and send out letters * Submit medical claims to appropriate insurance company * Keep up knowledge of discounts allowed in the office * Complete all tasks given in a timely manner * Be able to utilize the following equipment: 1) Auto refractor 2) Non-Contact Tonometry 3) Lensometer 4) Auto-lensometer 5) Spectacle adjusting tools 6) Humprey Visual Field * Utilize the practice EMR effectivelyOptometrist Assistant Job Duties* Ordering contact lens trials* Ordering prescriptions eye drops and lubricating drops* Pre-exams:o Auto-refractoro Non-contact Tonometryo Visual Fields* Scheduling appointments foro New patients/ Previous patientso Contact lens follow-upso Referred patients* Confirm appointmentso Before noon* Verification of insuranceso Vision and medical insuranceso Referred patients* Faxing letterso Primary care physicianso Referring physicians and referred physicians* Scanning and attaching documents into EMRo Medical history formso Insurance informationo Physician correspondence letterso Administrative documents* Recall patientso Missed appointmentso Contact lens follow-upso Visual field repeats* Keeping all equipment and work area cleano Daily wipe down of all equipment and work areas* Pre-exam room* Contact lens room* Exam room* Doctor's officeo Cover all equipment at the end of the day* Obtain prior authorizations from insurances for special serviceso Patients with Aetna, Tricare, Medicaid/Medicare and PE need prior authorization for services.Answer inquiries and obtain information for general public, customers, visitors, and other interested parties. Provide information regarding activities conducted at establishment; location of departments, offices, and employees within organization.Shifts and hours Varies
