The Assoc. Director, High Risk Work/Emergency Response will provide expert technical leadership and consulting to global operations with a focus on identifying safety related hazards, assessing risks and assisting sites in implementing compliant technical solutions for high-risk work (HRW) (open flame/hot work, confined space, hazardous energy control, line breaking, machinery safety, electrical safety, work at heights, trenching and excavation).
Provide expert technical leadership and consulting to global operations with a focus on identifying fire/life safety and emergency response risks and assisting sites in implementing compliant technical solutions for fire/life safety and emergency response.
Provide support to HRW, fire/life safety and emergency response functional improvement activities (e.g. training, tools, work processes, auditing, metrics, internal programs and standards).
Provide program leadership and technical support to capital projects, existing and R&D operations, incident investigations and support related trade group and advocacy activities.
Note: This position will require a significant amount of travel (domestic and international), estimated to be about 40%.
This position may be located at either our Kenilworth, NJ or West Point, PA site.
Education Minimum Requirement:
Minimum of a B.S. degree in industrial safety, fire protection, loss prevention, chemical engineering or a related field is required
Required Experience and Skills:
Minimum of 10 years of professional work experience that includes at least 7 years of progressive EHS experience in pharmaceutical, biochemical, chemical, petrochemical or process related industry with direct responsibility for HRW, fire safety and emergency response program development and management.
Detailed working knowledge of safety compliance, high risk work programs, fire safety and industrial safety/loss prevention consensus standards.
Direct experience in managing high risk work programs, safety engineering, fire safety and emergency response programs at the site, regional or global level.
Experience in managing and leading technical project teams.
Proficiency in the use of all Microsoft based desktop software programs.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Proven knowledge in development and management of High Risk Work Programs in a process-related industry.
Working knowledge of building/fire safety codes and standards (OSHA, ANSI, ISO, NFPA, IBC, UBC, UFC) and industry consensus standards (FM Global and XL Gaps Guidelines). Demonstrated ability to develop compliant and risk-based solutions for safety engineering, fire/life safety and emergency response needs and challenges.
Working knowledge of first responder, fire suppression, HAZMAT, technical rescue, emergency medical management and crisis management (ICS/NIMS) at the site, regional and national levels.
Experience in either municipal or industrial setting.
Proficiency in development of technical requirements, communications, and training programs for all programs noted above and for dissemination to a global organization at the senior and line management levels as well as operational level colleagues.
Secondary language skills.
Certification or registration as a Professional Engineer, Certified Safety Professional or Certified Fire Protection Specialist.
