Advocacy & Professional Relations Leader (Oncology)

The Advocacy and Professional Relations (APR) Leader, will be responsible for developing and executing the Lilly Oncology advocacy strategy aligned with the commercial strategic objectives of the Lilly Oncology North American & International Business Units, and the public-policy objectives as defined through the PACE (Patient Access to Cancer care Excellence) organization.

Overall Objectives:

Lead a high performing team to meet or exceed organizational goals

Initiate, develop and maintain relationships with premier patient and caregiver advocacy and professional organizations

Incorporate strategic insights from APR to support drug development from Phase II-III/submission through launch and the remainder of product life cycles

Influence and actively engage in shaping the environment around oncology access and reimbursement; health care reform; and other health care policy issues.

Improve the Lilly and Lilly Oncology Brands by exemplifying Lilly values and brand characteristics—both in personal conduct and in the design and implementation of collaborations.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop APR strategy for Lilly Oncology North America and International Business Unit

Lead therapeutic strategy plans for key commercial and pipeline assets

Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to all team members effectively to demonstrate career growth, development, and improved performance

Lead the external APR relationships for General PAGs

Lead the internal APR relationships for Lilly Oncology Market Research & New Product Planning

Initiate, develop and execute a communication strategy involving PAGs where they are aligned to public-policy and patient access issues. Define messages and determine approach for placement

Identify and prioritize PAGs to advance PACE policy priorities with and demonstrate movement driven thru advocacy customers when appropriate

Act as the point of contact for internal leadership colleagues and educate where PAGs may provide benefit for the business

Develop and support solutions for patients, caregivers, and health care teams for disease state education and patient support

Define, implement and share best practices in patient advocacy and professional relations across CA BUCA teams

Provide guidance on tactics that will address long-term competitive and environmental trends as they relate to launch preparation

Partner with PRA leadership to advance ES and advocacy efforts around patient access

Partner closely with the PACE Sr Director in the US, and with the EU A&PR director & consultant to keep advocacy work aligned

Deliver results that enable Lilly Oncology to be the preferred partner for the oncology advocacy community

Basic Qualifications

BS/BA degree

5 years of advocacy relations experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, device or diagnostic industry

Additional Skills/Preferences

Oncology experience including working knowledge of its unique development, delivery, payment, and patient assistance models

Experience and knowledge in the following areas: patient advocacy, professional relations, public relations, government relations, marketing, communications

Understanding of brand and franchise needs, including relevant scientific, medical, economic and policy-related matters

Leadership across medical, government affairs, public policy, marketing, communications and operations

Understanding of trends in both internal and external oncology environment with an impact on patient, consumer and hcp engagement or public policy influence

Propensity to build and maintain partnerships with stakeholders including policy makers, advocates, and elected officials

Experience with corporate issues management and crisis management teams, including ability to anticipate potential challenges and respond to them effectively when they occur

Extensive experience in the ability to effectively and successfully develop and deliver on a strategy and consistently get positive results

Social intelligence: sensitivity to diverse groups of people both internal and external with the ability to show response for many different opinions and perspectives, including tolerance for ambiguity

Ability to lead and represent the company and, where appropriate, to follow within a large complex organization and within small working teams

Willingness to commit to the role for no less than 3 years
