ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING ENGINEER– Reading, PA POSITION SUMMARY – this position is focused on expanding the use of Carpenter materials (wire and powder) within the additive manufacturing industry and, where applicable, the fabrication of finished products.  While the role will benefit from an apprentice model, the candidate is expected to become self-proficient across multiple design, simulation, materials characterization, processing and advanced analytical techniques related to Additive Manufacturing. PRIMARY DUTIES Responsible for pursuing opportunities in process, product and applications development where Carpenter materials can be employed, therefore expanding the customer base. Involved with pursing internal research projects as well as external collaborations under minimum supervision by Senior AM Engineers, to build a strong knowledge base an intellectual property for Carpenter in the field of Additive Manufacturing. Interaction and engagement with multiple areas within Carpenter (R&D, Production, Commercial), as well as with customers and the broader AM community on issues related to metal additive manufacturing. Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned. REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics or Chemistry required.  Masters or PhD preferred.  2 years of academic or industrial research experience in Metallurgy, Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering, preferably with hands-on experience in Computer Aided Design (CAD) and/or Additive Manufacturing (AM).   Familiarity with metal powder production and experience modeling techniques, including CAD, MATLAB, Finite Element or other simulation tools. Experience with materials characterization equipment for mechanical/chemical/structural analysis (Optical Metallography, SEM, XRD, Tensile Testing).    Familiarity with additive process and/or product development.) Requires a balance of theoretical and hands-on skills to be able to introduce new and existing additive manufacturing technologies. Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, effective problem solving skills, ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.  Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever changing production oriented environment.Ability to lead initiatives of moderate scope and impact, ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.  THIS POSITION REQUIRES US CITIZEN OR GREEN CARD HOLDER Carpenter Technology Company offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package including life, medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, disability coverage, 401k with company contributions as well as many other options to employees.
