Reports to: VP, Retirement Plan Operations


Leader accountable for the operational interactions across Sponsors, Third Party Administrators (TPAs), Consultants, Advisors, and Participants for qualified and non-qualified retirement plans focused on Operations project and portfolio deliverables (including Tier I Momentum, RP strategic portfolio, and Tactical Run portfolio), development and execution of strategy for RP security/controls that prevent fraud, and accountable for operational incident management.

Supports $130 Billion AUM with over 29,000 plans for the Retirement Plan Business through the execution of portfolio operational readiness, LEAN, incident triage, and NF/Enterprise fraud strategy. Leads operational strategic business planning and responsible for establishing internal and external partnerships to deliver on strategic accountabilities.

Role Summary

Leader accountable for all operational interactions with Sponsors, Third Party Administrator (TPAs), Consultants and Advisors for qualified and non-qualified retirement plan relationships through multiple administration models. Supports the $110 billion AUM with over 29,000 plans for the Retirement Plan Business. Accountable for delivering on strategic business deliverables through the execution of sales to new plan implementation, ensuring all required compliance through the life cycle of the plan.

Key Responsibilities

Execution of strategy: Provides vision, direction and establishes goals and objectives for business segment through directors/divisions and Operational teams to ensure the organization meets business performance objectives, quality standards and customer needs.

Industry, Partner, and Customer Relationships: Accountable for on-going Sponsor and Third Party Administrator relationships with the objective of deepening relationships through industry participation, client visits and due diligence meetings. Accountable for creating insight opportunities through originating industry committees and boards that identify opportunities to grow and retain business. Represents the client services perspective to senior Retirement Plans leadership. Represents Operations to prospective plan sponsors, advisors and consultants during finalist presentations, requiring extensive travel at times.

Leadership for Operations Teams: Responsible for the development and delivery of Client Services to Plan Sponsors and Third Party Administrators through a vast organization that includes new plan transition and implementation services, existing plan management, contract underwriting, and support services across all industry model for all aspects of recordkeeping, ensuring adherence to regulations, and supporting plan sponsors to meet their fiduciary liability. Accountable for industry programs and associate technical development support. Leads, motivates, communicates, provides coaching and feedback and promotes associate engagement.

Development of Strategy: Accountable for the development and delivery of effective and efficient client services management for Plan Sponsors and Third Party Administrators, participating matrix for development and support of Advisor & Plan Participant Management. Provides input on the overall strategy of Retirement Plan's operations and service. Sits on the Sales Leadership team providing input and support to help meet sales goals. Leads operational activities in developing solutions for customers and partnering across the RP organization to create and execute programs to support business segment objectives. Serves as executive sponsor for technology, automation, service and improvement projects.

Typical Skills and Experiences

Education/Certification/Licenses: Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Operations Management. Product related technical course work (CRC, CFP, QKA, LOMA, CPCU, CPU, ASPPA) preferred, FINRA Series 6 & 26 required. May require Series 65 (Investment Advisor); serves as the registered principal for NISC and NIA for registered representatives that have both 6 and 65 licenses. Professional designations also may include ASPPA (American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries) member, Chartered Retirement Plan Specialist (CRPS). Nationwide Trust Company Officer.

Experience/Skills: 15 years of significant experience in financial services. Skills and experience in managing relationships with partners and sponsors; knowledge of DOL/IRS requirements for annual compliance. Action oriented w/decision making (timely and quality), problem solving, command skills; highly customer focused, good priority setting, and ability to interact with political savvy internally and influence external customers. Recruiting and talent development critical. Travel 2/month to visit partners, customers, prospects, suppliers &/or attend industry meetings. Extensive travel for public sector finalist presentations, board meetings, and due diligence visits is required.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

Job Conditions

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.
