POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Scientist, Physical Properties is responsible for conducting testing under direct supervision using established methodology. The Associate Scientist is involved in analysis of contact lenses to support glove box development, pilot line or manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate also performs routine analysis to assist in the continuous improvement of methodology to meet new requirements or sample types while adhering to quality guidelines. The associated Scientist must be able to effectively communicate his/her findings to team members.

The Associate Scientist operates and maintains laboratory equipment; operates hands-on analytical and other instruments considered standard in his/her area of expertise. Basic troubleshooting skills are expected to develop over time.

Adheres to environmental policy, procedures, and supports department environmental objectives.

Engages in Credo-based decision-making.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform physical property testing to suport contact lens. Testing includes but is not limited to: UV/Vis, pH, conductivity, water content, osmolality, oxygen permeability, FTIR analysis, refractive index, contact angle

Document and prepare results related to testing of lenses. Use Labware LIMS to report results for established methods

Interface with senior physical properties team members and project teams to ensure that the proper testing requirements and timelines are being met

Maintain clean work area and support lab in housekeeping, environmental, and safety initiatives

Perform other related duties as assigned by management

Five (5) to ten (10) lots analyzed per day depending on complexity of methodology and required sample size

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

BS in chemistry, engineering or other science discipline or equivalent

Zero (0) to two (2) years of work experience in a laboratory with BS in Chemistry/Engineering or related field

Five (5) years of experience in a laboratory with no degree

Ability to pay special attention to detail with degree of accuracy

Must be familiar with GMP, GLP, SOP and ISO

Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
