Matt has spent his legal career practicing solely family law. By focusing on family law, Matt has developed a history of successfully litigating divorce, paternity and custody matters through trial.
After graduating in 2006 from St. Louis University School of Law, Matt joined as an associate in an established family law practice in Clayton. He departed that firm as a named partner in July of 2013, to form Voorhees Family Law, LLC.
Matt believes the best outcome is generally one where parties work together to reach a fair and amicable resolution. In some cases, this is done at the kitchen table. In others, a mediator can be helpful. In addition to keeping costs down, when parties are able to reach a fair settlement, they are more likely to extend a healthier co-parenting relationship beyond the divorce judgment. In such cases, his role is to advise as to the fairness of the agreement and to draft the documents necessary to effect the desired outcome.
Matt also understands that some cases can only be resolved through the court process. Whether parties have few assets and no children, or a multimillion dollar estate with complicated custody, maintenance and business valuation issues, Matt believes it is important to fully understand the exact nature of all assets, debts, incomes and custody and support issues. With this full understanding, the facts can be presented to the court in a manner that allows for the best possible outcome.
Matt speaks on a variety of family law issues and divorce. He serves as a Committee Co-Chair for the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and as a member of the Mayor’s Vanguard Cabinet. Matt is also a volunteer mediator for M.A.R.C.H. Mediation. He is a member of the Missouri Bar Association and The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis.
In 2010, Matt was named an “Up & Coming Lawyer” by Missouri Lawyer’s Weekly.
