Anna Carthew commenced the study of law in 1980 at the age of 17 and worked as a conveyancing clerk throughout university studies. Anna worked in private practice for 12 years in Sydney . During this time Anna was also retained as legal adviser for the Republic of Fiji dealing directly with the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General and assisting the Republic of Fiji to manage their litigation matters.
Anna also provided advice to EMI Music and Warner Music in respect of licensing issues and recording contracts.Ballarat Legal Resolution Services Principal Anna CarthewShe became the first female partner of what was then the largest law firm in Sydney's eastern suburbs representing numerous corporations and insurance companies. Anna has previously provided legal services to various top tier insurance companies. In 1993 Anna successfully completed the Mediation Workshop conducted by LEADR under the auspices of Sir Laurence Street.
Anna then worked as an in-house counsel for two large multinational companies Oracle Australasia and then as General Legal Counsel Asia Pacific for Vignette Corporation. Both of these positions required the drafting and negotiation of major software supply and maintenance contracts to banks, government departments and tertiary institutions and with Vignette for contracts throughout the Asia Pacific region. Anna then worked as a Senior Lawyer in the Technology and Intellectual Property department of the Australian Government Solicitor in Canberra representing clients such as the Department of Defence, Customs and the Australian Taxation Office.
In 2008, Anna commenced practice as a sole practitioner and has continued in sole practice since that time representing clients as varied as not for profit organisations, private individuals, companies, farmers and legal aid clients.
Using her corporate background Anna has utilised those skills and experience in the challenging and ever changing area of family law providing advice on all aspects of family law including binding financial agreements, property and parenting issues, litigation, mediation and advice work.
Anna has assisted clients with the drafting of estate planning documents for vulnerable beneficiaries, blended families and clients that hold positions in corporate entities, trusts and self managed super funds .
A strong believer in alternate dispute resolution, Anna became an Accredited Specialist Mediator with the Law Institute of Victoria in 2012. Anna's excellent people skills, commitment to client service and over 28 years’ experience will ensure that your matter is given close personal and accurate attention.
Anna is a member of Ballarat Business Women Inc and Ballarat Chamber of Commerce.
She enjoys the autonomy of having her own firm and provides quick and practical advice to her clients. Anna is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and is admitted as a Solicitor and Barrister of the High Court of Australia. Anna is a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia.
