We are one of the largest non-unitary authorities in the UK, responsible for an area of 260 sq. miles that comprises beautiful beaches, pretty villages and ancient forest land. We deliver a range of services to our 176,500 residents including affordable housing, refuse and recycling, planning and leisure. We have a reputation for strong community leadership and are committed to improving the social, economic and environmental wellbeing of the district as well as playing a leading role in the forest’s future. Our vision is to be an outward looking council, working closely with the community and in partnership with others to enhance the quality of lives of present and future generations.
