About Beth Abraham Family of Health Services

In 1920, Beth Abraham ("The House of Abraham"), named for Talmudic scholar Rabbi Abraham Alperstein, was founded by his socially conscious wife Bertha. From her vision, a simple wood-frame house was erected as a home-like alternative to institutional living. With the help of a handful of determined women, she created a refuge for the frail, poor and elderly Jewish community of the Bronx, offering nutritious food, quality recreation and the best nursing care available.

Over 90 years later, Beth Abraham, a member of CenterLight Health System, now serves people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. We continue to provide our diverse Bronx community with the environment and services required to live in comfort and dignity. Our facility on Allerton Avenue has 448 beds, with three floors designated for short-term rehabilitation patients and two specialized floors for our patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Each floor acts as a community designed to help people with different needs restore their hope, health and living opportunities. We offer flexible admission hours, extended visiting hours, telephone service and cable TV, a spacious outdoor patio that accommodates great outdoor activities, a library, Internet Café, beauty parlor and a cafeteria that's open to the public.
