Day Pitney is a leading full-service regional U.S. law firm with a more than 100-year reputation for superior client service and high-value legal representation.
With close to 300 attorneys in nine offices throughout the Northeast, we are well-positioned to provide regional, national and international clients results-based representation and forward-thinking solutions to complex litigation, transactions and regulatory matters.
Our clients range from Fortune 100 corporations to individuals. At the heart of our practice are middle-market companies in all stages of development from start-up to maturity. Our lawyers have in-depth experience in a wide array of industries, most notably in the financial institution, government, insurance, manufacturing, energy and real estate sectors. We also have one of the largest and most sophisticated individual clients practices in the country.
Day Pitney's culture places great value on diversity, innovation, accessibility and transparency—characteristics that enable us to anticipate our clients' needs and instill confidence that we are doing the best job possible advocating on their behalf. At Day Pitney client-focused thinking means continually striving for new ways to exceed our clients' expectations. Our Client Service Steering Committee is responsible for identifying ways to improve client services firm-wide and implementing the changes necessary to add real value for our clients. Day Pitney firmly believes that "the client knows best" and, to that end, we always welcome their views on how to improve the quality and effectiveness of the firm's services. The Committee also advises firm personnel on how to engage in client-focused thinking and utilize "client service" best practices to strengthen relationships and collaboration with their colleagues within the firm. Employees who demonstrate excellent service or present good ideas for achieving service goals receive awards in recognition of their contributions. Of course, the efficiencies that we realize from our internal service programs translate into better value for our clients, as well, and better value for our clients drives our continued success. Client service done right is a virtuous circle, and it's at the heart of everything we do.
Day Pitney is committed to diversity and inclusiveness. We foster diversity within our firm and the communities we live in. Diversity is one of the firm's core values. We believe people of diverse skills, opinions, perspectives, lifestyles, ideas, thinking and knowledge make us a stronger, more productive law firm. We actively seek out people who distinguish themselves from the pack - people of diverse ethnicity, culture, race, national origin, age, religion, disabilities, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, political affiliation and veteran status.
Spearheading this commitment is our director of diversity, who is a member of the senior management team at the firm and is responsible for implementing the firm's diversity plan that ensures the firm's focus on diversity as a core value. The director of diversity serves as the firm's thought leader, ambassador and advocate on diversity, inclusion and equity initiatives and issues. The director of diversity works with the Executive Committee, cross-office Diversity Committee and other key members of the firm to further the firm's diversity objectives.
While we are proud of what the firm has achieved over the years, we continue to build on those accomplishments. One of the ways we're doing this is through internal affinity groups such as Day Pitney Attorneys of Color (DPAC), which is a network comprising all attorneys of color throughout the firm and which aims to foster an inclusive environment that helps ensure the success of minority attorneys, Women Working Together (WWT), which provides mutual support, professional growth and community service opportunities to women attorneys at the firm and to clients, and the Day Pitney Alliance, which provides an avenue for Day Pitney employees, regardless of sexual orientation or role within the firm, to express support for LGBT people, and promote awareness of and support for LGBT causes and concerns.
Additionally, we have established an LGBT Planning Group in our Individual Client practice group specifically designed to serve and support the LGBT community.
Internally at the firm we have supported the YWCA Stand Against Racism program and have facilitated "Lean In" discussion groups for employees to discuss important current issues with their colleagues. In addition, we have a Heritage Month Speaker Series that brings in speakers to discuss topics of importance related to the various heritage month celebrations. In the recent past we have hosted an Assistant Attorney General and member of the Hispanic National Bar Association task force created to raise awareness of the DREAM Act, a retired college professor to discuss the Emancipation Proclamation on the occasion of its 150th anniversary, the first female president of a major bank in Connecticut, and a panel presentation on marriage equality. These events are open to all employees at the firm and are broadcast live throughout all our offices.
Day Pitney also regularly sponsors and supports attendance at events put on by organizations dedicated to enhancing opportunities for minority lawyers and law students, such as the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, the Boston Lawyers Group, the New Jersey Law Firm Group, the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity, and various national and state minority bar associations. Day Pitney attorneys have served in leadership positions in many of these organizations.
In addition, Day Pitney works to create innovative programs and policies to recruit and retain women and minorities. We recruit through several programs, including the Rutgers-Newark Minority Student Program, the University of Connecticut School of Law Cultural Diversity Initiative, the New Jersey Law Firm Group and the Northeast Black Law Students Association Job Fair.
We are committed to working with our clients, professional colleagues, diversity organizations and others in the communities in which we practice as we pursue the common goal of a professional workplace where opportunity is available to all. We continue to strive to provide challenging opportunities, meaningful guidance and positive incentives to assist our professionals in achieving their greatest potential. In doing so, our goal is ultimately to create advantages from our differences and to achieve richer, broader and innovative results.

Day Pitney LLP has changed how it runs its summer program by returning to the tradition of legal apprenticeship. The idea behind the move was to provide you, the law student, with the practical, hands-on training necessary to become a great lawyer.
At Day Pitney, we focus on the development and education of our attorneys, and we stress the importance of working as a team to achieve the best results for our clients. We have developed a summer program designed to reflect these key values. It emphasizes teamwork, as well as learning by observation and interaction with practicing professionals. For this reason, we no longer refer to law students as summer associates, but instead refer to them as apprentices. In this way, we are getting back to the basics and returning to our tradition of legal apprenticeships.
